2018 Classes!

Good Good Comedy Theatre offers classes in a wide range of comedic disciplines. We employ teachers who are experienced in their comedic fields and develop their own individual curriculum, ensuring that each class is a unique and fun experience.

We’ve got a bunch of new classes starting in 2018! Most of these are filling up fast, and spots are limited. These make great gifts to a loved one, a hated one whose life you’re trying to better, or even yourself!

IMPROV: LEVEL ONE
w/ Annie Paradis

In this six-week class, you will learn the basics of improvised comedy in a fun and supportive space. This course aims to teach you the fundamentals of improv, build your confidence on stage and gives you the tools to collaborate and create comedic scenes with others.

Upon completion of the class, students will perform a half hour improvised show.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Annie Paradis has studied improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, the People’s Improv Theater (PIT), and taken workshops under Susan Messing (Annoyance Theater, The Second City, iO Theater) and Mike Spara (The New Movement). Annie received her BFA from Pratt Institute in Creative Writing with a focus in Poetry and Performance. She is a member of the improv teams HOTLINE and Swan Year and hosts / produces the monthly poetry comedy show The Slam at Good Good Comedy Theatre.

PRODUCING A COMEDY SHOW
w/ Kate Banford

In this six-week class, students will be taken from the pitching phase all the way through the final product – a staging of their own unique live comedy show. You will learn how to structure a comedy show creatively, effectively promote your own individual show, and meet a ton of great new people along the way.

Upon completion of the class, each student will mount their own original 30-minute show on the Good Good Comedy Theatre stage (and profits from the show will be shared with the student).

PLUS: Students receive free entry to Good Good Comedy Theatre shows for the duration of the class.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Kate Banford is the co-founder of Good Good Comedy Theatre and Five Dollar Comedy Week, Philly’s largest independent comedy festival. Kate hosts and produces dozens of shows throughout the city, including Talkmasters and Garbage ImprovIn 2015, she was nominated as Comedy Act of the Year on Philebrity and was most recently was named on a list of “Who’s Next in the Arts” on BillyPenn.

SKETCH COMEDY:  LEVEL ONE
w/ Sean Keegan-Landis

This is a class on understanding and creating sketch comedy (the sort seen on Saturday Night Live, Chappelle’s Show, or Inside Amy Schumer). Throughout the course, you will develop multiple skills related to dissecting and drafting sketches. Each week, you will analyze existing sketches that you watch or read. You will learn techniques for developing, pitching, and fleshing out sketch ideas. You will also consistently create and revise full sketches, and workshop these sketches with Sean and classmates.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Sean Keegan-Landis is a sketch comedy writer, performer, teacher, and director. He has written and performed sketches with American Breakfast and the acclaimed sketch group The Flat Earth. His sketch video Burr was featured on Nerdist, Maximum Fun and was named one of the Funniest Moments of 2014 by the Huffington Post. He has studied at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in NYC and taken workshops with Kevin MacDonald (Kids in the Hall), Christine Nangle (Inside Amy Schumer, Saturday Night Live), and Michael Delaney (Veep, The Other Guys). When not doing comedy, Sean teaches philosophy at Rowan University and Widener University.

IMPROV: LEVEL TWO
w/ Annie Paradis

In this six-week class we will learn how to perform “game” or finding what’s funny in a scene, second beats, and heightening a scene to its full comedic potential. Students will also focus on creating engaging relationship driven comedic scenes that are sustainable and memorable.

Upon completion of the class, students will perform a half hour improvised show.

Pre-req: To enroll you must have completed Improv Level One at any comedy theater.
