August Comedy Guide

For one night only, these four loyal and nearly underage women from NYC share a soul-stirring bond, and an unimaginable secret. Wonderful News promises a truly unique comedy experience, designed to inspire, enlight, uplift, tighten, downshift, deflate, disorient, terrify, and ultimately, maim its audience. Featuring Ana Fabrega (Portlandia), Lorelei Ramirez (VICE), Patti Harrison (Seriously TV) and Amy Zimmer (The New Yorker).

Montreal’s sketch comedy sweethearts are blasting down to Philly to lay down a steamy set and melt your eyes and hearts! HOT RAW FIRE are known for their use of live video on stage, PG-13 body horror and intersectional mime-cycles. The 3-time winners of Best Local Troupe at the Montreal Sketchfest are also fresh off their runs at festivals in Chicago, Toronto and Philly as well as Just For Laughs. With special guests The Incredible Shrinking Matt & Jacquie!

Every Saturday night, the best stand-up comics from up and down the east coast come to The Dance to throw down, including acts seen on Comedy Central, MTV, The Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, Adult Swim and more. There is no better place to see stand-up in Philly than The Dance. Hosted by Doogie HornerChris O’Connor.

Stand-up comedy and jazz – the two truly American art forms that people claim to enjoy but watch Netflix instead of attending. Now host Brendan Krick offers you a rare opportunity to see them both at once! This month’s installment features Cassandra Dee, Chris Wood, Aaron Abramowitz, Megan Goetz and Joe Bell, all accompanied by live jazz from The Austin Wagner Trio.

Sixteen comedians enter. All but one of them are stoned. It’s up to all of us to find the sober individual in the popular game show of sobriety tests that Phindie calls “highly entertaining.” Officer Alex Grubard administers field sobriety tests, takes audience testimony, and asks trivia questions of Philly’s premier drug-induced comics as we all seek justice by weeding out the stoned. Be part of the witch hunt!

Anna Drezen is a stand-up comedian, Saturday Night Live writer and editor-at-large of Reductress, the wildly popular satirical women’s site. In 2017, Anna was on Comedy Central’s list of 8 Comedians You Need To Look Out For and appeared at Comedy Central’s Colossal Clusterfest. She co-authored the books Reductress: How To Win At Feminism and How May We Hate You? Anna has also appeared on Spontaneanation with Paul F. Tompkins, Mouth Time and more.

An NYC classic is coming to Philly for one night only! Strap in and listen to these comics roast the one person that everybody loves to hate: themselves at age 15. Roast of Your 15 Year Old Self is a not-so-safe space where comics expose the shitty, horrifying teenager that made them into a shitty, horrifying adult. Hosted by Alise Morales (UCB, Betches).

Fresh off a sold-out run at NYC’s famed Joe’s Pub, Cole Escola (Difficult People, Mozart In The Jungle) brings his acclaimed one-man show Help! I’m Stuck to Philly.  Cole plays multiple characters in a series of comedic vignettes that operate on the fringes of coherence and social acceptability. With special guest Patti Harrison (The Tonight Show, Comedy Central).

ONE DAY ONLY! At this workshop, you will learn the basics of building a unique comedic character. You will craft a backstory, develop a character’s ‘voice,’ and learn costuming and other creative choices. You’ll leave this workshop with unique ways to rehearse as a character and perform it on stage! Taught by Gregg Gethard.
